National Apprenticeship Programme reserves 60% for women, 15% for PWDs

Minister George Opare Addo announced new priorities for the National Apprenticeship Programme. The programme will focus on including marginalized groups. It will reserve 60% of slots for women and 15% for persons with disabilities.

In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, he stressed the importance of inclusive development. He noted that women often face barriers in employment opportunities. Therefore, they are a key focus of this initiative.

“We are reserving a percentage of applications for women,” he said. “We aim for 60% from women and 15% from people with disabilities.” This approach ensures inclusivity for all marginalized individuals in society.

The Minister clarified that men can still apply. However, he encouraged more women and persons with disabilities to participate. This will help achieve broader representation and impact.

The programme was launched on March 19 by the National Youth Authority (NYA). It aims to provide vocational and technical training to young Ghanaians. The initiative also targets individuals from galamsey-prone areas and those recovering from drug abuse. It offers them a pathway to rehabilitation and sustainable livelihoods.
