A joint team of National Security operatives, police, and military personnel arrested Nigerian businessman Ben Peters. This occurred at the Aurora Apartments in Kanda, Accra. The arrest followed a tense standoff near the Jubilee House.
The operation was led by Richard Jakpa and Mustapha Gbande. They acted after Mr. Peters and armed men blocked the entrance to the complex. This prevented access for other residents.
Mustapha Gbande confirmed the incident, stating, “He has blocked the place such that no individual can go in or come out.” He added that it is illegal to take people for ransom in Ghana or Nigeria.
Sources say Mr. Peters initially resisted arrest and hid on the premises. The standoff ended when Ibrahim Mahama, brother of the President, arrived. This prompted security operatives to move in and apprehend him.
Mr. Peters and several associates are now in custody. National Security has seized his vehicles used to block the complex. The motive behind Mr. Peters’ actions remains unclear as investigations continue.
