The National Security Council Secretariat has called on the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) to assist in the evacuation of 706 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
This directive, outlined in a confidential letter dated March 27, 2025, was signed by National Security Coordinator Osman Abdul-Razak and instructs that the containers be relocated to a warehouse in Abelemkpe, Accra.
The letter also requests the suspension of all port charges on the containers until the completion of ongoing investigations into the matter.
The GPHA has received and stamped the document, which has also been circulated to the Minister of Transport and the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), signaling significant government oversight.
This action comes after reports of missing or unaccounted-for ECG containers, sparking investigations into the issue.
Delays in the clearance of vital electrical equipment, necessary for the country’s power distribution, have raised concerns about financial losses and disruptions in the supply chain.
Irregularities in procurement and clearance procedures are believed to be at the root of these issues.
Further updates are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
