National Security team intercepts trucks diverting cooking oil shipment

A special monitoring and intelligence team has made a significant interception. Led by Hajia Rashida Mahama, they stopped three trucks loaded with cooking oil. The trucks were declared as exports to Ivory Coast but were traced to Kumasi instead.

This raised immediate concerns among authorities. Upon inspection, officials found the tracking devices tampered with. They were cut off and loosely attached to the tarpaulin covers. This suggests a deliberate attempt to avoid surveillance.

Each truck carried 2,129 drums of cooking oil. Preliminary investigations indicate that drivers may have colluded with the owners. They likely falsely declared the shipment to evade local taxes.

Hajia Rashida Mahama confirmed that investigations are ongoing. She assured that sanctions will be applied against those found guilty. She also urged the government to strengthen human surveillance at entry and exit points.

According to her, relying too much on digital tracking systems is ineffective. Smugglers often disable or manipulate these devices. “The trackers alone are not enough,” she emphasized. “We need stronger human oversight to prevent illegal diversions.”
