A shocking discovery of genuine Bank of Ghana (BoG) cash boxes at the heart of a major counterfeiting operation in Sapeiman has sparked alarms about the country’s financial security systems.
During an exclusive visit to the scene, Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, confirmed the boxes were authentic BoG property.
The Sapeiman bust, which occurred in February, uncovered an extensive forgery ring operating behind a façade of a battery-charging shop.
Investigators found ten 40-foot containers filled with counterfeit currency and fake gold bars, with two additional containers moved just before the raid.
National Security has launched a manhunt for the suspected leader, “Alhaji,” and vowed to enhance surveillance to prevent future breaches.
