National chair should be the face of NPP's 'thank you tour', not a potential candidate – Kwadwo Mpiani

Kwadwo Mpiani was the Chief of Staff under former President John Agyekum Kufuor. He believes the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) should have its 'Thank you tour' led by the National Chairman. He argues that this should not be done by someone interested in running for flagbearer in the next election.

Currently, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party's 2024 flagbearer, is leading the tour. This has drawn criticism from Mr. Mpiani.

According to NPP's constitution, the national chairman leads when the party is in opposition. The chairman remains in charge until a conference elects new officers and a flagbearer.

Mr. Mpiani stated on JoyNews’ The Pulse, “If the chairman is the leader, he should be the face of this tour.” He believes it should not be led by a candidate who may run again.

He also criticized the tour as misplaced and questioned what Dr. Bawumia was thanking people for.

Mr. Mpiani has called for an end to the ongoing tour. Instead, he wants focus on Prof Mike Oquaye’s report about NPP’s defeat in 2024 elections.

He urged the party to address issues that caused their loss rather than continue touring around the country.
