Nations FC cite “poor officiating” and “security lapses” as reasons for abandoning Basake Holy Stars match

Nations Football Club has released a strong statement. They explained their decision to stop the match against Basake Holy Stars on June 1, 2025.

The club cited “unacceptable incidents” that threatened game integrity and safety.

They criticized the officiating as “extremely poor” and below expected standards. This compromised fairness and raised concerns about competition integrity.

Nations FC reported an attack on their senior executives. Their President, Mr. Divine Kyei Boadu, and Chairman, Dr. Kwame Kyei, were assaulted by home supporters. This created an unsafe environment for players and officials.

The club questioned security arrangements for the match. They noted that only 20 police officers were present instead of the agreed 70. This left their team and supporters vulnerable.

Supporters faced issues as well. The club stated that fans with valid tickets were denied entry into the stadium. They called this act of discrimination unacceptable and against fair play.

Concerns also arose regarding media personnel treatment. Their accredited videographer was stopped from recording by home team supporters and officials, with support from the Match Commissioner.

In conclusion, Nations FC urged the Ghana Football Association to investigate these incidents. They called for appropriate disciplinary measures to ensure safety and fairness for all involved.

The Communications Department signed off the statement, calling the decision to halt the game “difficult,” but necessary under these circumstances.
