Nestlé and ECOM commission clean water initiative for cocoa farmers in 3 regions

Nestlé has partnered with ECOM to improve cocoa farmers' lives. They have commissioned boreholes to provide clean water for farming communities.

Access to clean water is vital for the health of farming families. Without reliable water sources, farmers face daily challenges. This situation increases the workload for households, especially women and children.

During the 2024-2025 cocoa season, Nestlé and ECOM installed 15 boreholes. These are located in Ashanti, Central, and Eastern regions. This initiative aims to ease the burden of fetching water for cocoa farming households.

At the commissioning ceremony, Emmanuel Baffoe-Bonie from ECOM spoke about the benefits of centralized water sources. He noted that it saves time for families. This allows them to focus on other important activities.

Deborah Kwablah from Nestlé Ghana highlighted their commitment to improving farmers' livelihoods. She mentioned that access to clean water enhances health outcomes. It also empowers communities toward a sustainable future.

Baffour Nadu Tetteh I, Chief of Adumasa Manya, expressed gratitude for this initiative. He thanked Nestlé and ECOM for providing clean water access. He also requested support for building a school and health center in the community.

Nestlé understands the importance of collaborating with local stakeholders. They aim to enhance cocoa farmers' livelihoods through these partnerships. By focusing on innovative solutions, they seek long-term positive impacts in cocoa farming.

The Nestlé Cocoa Plan promotes sustainable practices in cocoa farming. It addresses challenges like child protection, farmer poverty, and environmental sustainability.
