Major General William Agyapong is the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces.
He officially took command on Monday, March 24, 2025. This followed a Transfer of Authority Parade at the General Headquarters in Accra.
Before becoming CDS, Major General Agyapong was promoted to Two-Star General. President John Dramani Mahama made this promotion.
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister of Defence, decorated him with his new rank.
As CDS, he will oversee operations and strategic direction for the Armed Forces. He will also work with other security agencies to ensure national safety.
This event marks an important milestone in his military career.
In his speech at the ceremony, Maj. Gen. Agyapong pledged to fully dedicate himself to national security.
He assured Ghanaians that he would work hard to strengthen the Armed Forces and protect against threats.
