The new Board of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) visited the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The visit took place at the Manhyia Palace.
Chairman Nana Prof. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II led the delegation. They introduced the new Board members and Acting CEO Dr. Paa Kwasi Baidoo. The purpose was to seek royal blessings for their tenure.
Prof. Boachie-Adjei Woahene II is also Otumfuo’s Hiahene. He is a renowned orthopaedic surgeon and founder of FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital in Accra. He assured the Asantehene that the 11-member Board is committed to its mandate.
He pledged that they would work hard with all stakeholders. Their goal is to make KATH a world-class facility this year, as it turns 70.
Dr. Baidoo has worked at KATH for 20 years since graduating from medical school. He expressed eagerness to enhance specialist services at KATH.
He requested assistance from the Asantehene with several challenges facing the hospital. These include funding issues for the Maternity and Children’s Block project, which aims to reduce congestion.
Dr. Baidoo also sought support for residential accommodation for medical staff near the hospital. This would help doctors respond quickly to emergencies.
He highlighted a serious issue: experienced specialists are living outside the metropolis due to redevelopment in Danyame. This situation delays their responses during emergencies, and he asked for intervention.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II urged unity among Board members. He emphasized using their expertise to support hospital management effectively.
He noted KATH's strategic role as a tertiary healthcare facility in central Ghana. All stakeholders must work together to improve its operations.
The Asantehene advised them to optimize Internally Generated Funds while awaiting government support.
Regarding his Heal Komfo Anokye Project (HeKAP), he charged Dr. Baidoo with ensuring its successful implementation at KATH.
Otumfuo expects a formal report on HeKAP's status soon so Dr. Baidoo can take charge of its execution moving forward.
Other Board members include Annis Moghtar Mohayideen, Ibrahim Akwasi Asante-Manu, Dr. Eric Clement Desmond Kotei Addison, Emmanuel Obeng-Agyemang, Dr. Susan Yaa Aframa Arkah, Prof. Akwasi Antwi-Kusi, Prof. Chrissie Stansie Abaidoo, Samuel Addo Otoo, and Kwadwo Gyabeng.
