New KMA boss declares war on indiscipline in Kumasi

Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi is the new Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA). He has warned traders about occupying pavements and road medians in the Central Business District.

His message is clear: unauthorized trading will no longer be tolerated.

After his confirmation on April 10, Mr. Boadi shared his vision for a cleaner Kumasi. He emphasized the need for cooperation and discipline in the city.

“There is a lot of indiscipline in our metropolis,” he said. “I will ensure strict compliance with city by-laws. If you are selling on the pavement, adjust yourself.”

He also warned that traders in the middle of roads will be cleared starting Wednesday. “If you are in the middle of any dual carriageway, please move,” he urged.

Mr. Boadi plans to clean up Kumasi from all visible filth. He assured that this operation would not involve military personnel but would focus on collaboration.

“With decongestion, we won’t use military forces,” he explained. “We want to find ways to keep traders in Adum while reducing congestion.”

Regarding the Kejetia Market phase two project, Mr. Boadi acknowledged public concerns about slow progress at the site. He stated that discussions are ongoing to address these issues.

“The contractors are on site, but we expect more energy,” he noted. “The regional minister has been working on it for some time.”

He believes that by the end of President Mahama’s tenure, Kejetia Market will be ready.
