New NSA board urged to deliver on mandate and tackle 'ghost names'

The newly sworn-in governing board of the National Service Authority (NSA) has a big task ahead. They need to reshape the institution and guide its growth according to national priorities.

At the swearing-in ceremony, Minister George Opare Addo spoke to the board members. He urged them to perform their duties with integrity and commitment. He emphasized that President John Dramani Mahama has high expectations for their leadership.

“As new board members, you have a significant responsibility,” he said. “You must reshape the Authority and guide its strategic growth.” The Minister expressed confidence that they would meet these expectations.

Mr. Opare Addo also highlighted ongoing administrative challenges. He specifically mentioned the issue of ghost names on the NSA’s payroll. He praised recent efforts that removed about 2,000 ghost names, calling it a positive step toward financial accountability.

The new board is expected to drive reforms for better efficiency and transparency. They will enhance the relevance of the National Service Scheme. This scheme plays a crucial role in national development through youth engagement and workforce readiness. The board is chaired by Okai Mintah.
