Minister Sam Nartey George has promised a smoother SIM card registration process in Ghana.
He spoke on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on April 9. The Minister is confident about the new, user-friendly approach. He emphasized that it will focus on efficiency and the user experience.
“This is a human-centered, technology-driven exercise,” George stated. He believes it will be seamless and stress-free for Ghanaians. Many will wonder why they faced difficulties in the past.
His assurance follows frustrations from the previous SIM re-registration campaign in 2021. That initiative required all SIM card holders to re-register using the Ghana Card. It faced many challenges, including technical issues and limited access to Ghana Cards.
Due to these problems, the deadline was extended multiple times. Even with extensions, millions of SIM cards remained unregistered. This raised concerns about data privacy and potential fraud.
George's comments aim to restore public trust in the registration process. He wants to create a revamped system that embraces innovation and convenience for users. His focus on technology suggests streamlined digital systems may be used. The emphasis on being human-centered indicates better support for citizens during registration.
