New Scholarships Authority legislation to be presented to Parliament – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced a new Scholarships Authority Bill. This bill aims to improve how government scholarships are managed. It will ensure greater transparency, fairness, and accountability.

During a national broadcast, Mr. Mahama discussed the progress of his 120-Day Social Contract. He mentioned that Cabinet has already approved the legislation. The bill will be presented when Parliament reconvenes.

The President addressed concerns about inequities and political interference in scholarships. He stated, “To ensure fairness and transparency, we promised to lay before Parliament a new bill.” This bill aims to eliminate political patronage and corruption in scholarship awards.

The proposed Ghana Scholarships Authority will manage a merit-based system. It will prioritize genuinely needy and deserving students.

Mr. Mahama expressed hope that Parliament will quickly consider the bill. He said, “Cabinet has given policy approval for the new Scholarships Authority Bill.” He looks forward to its passage when Parliament resumes sitting.
