New chip-embedded passport has 175 security features – Ablakwa

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced new chip-embedded passports. These passports have 175 security features. In contrast, the old passports had only 32 features.

He also introduced several improvements. There will be a 24-hour passport processing service. Passports will be delivered to applicants’ doorsteps. Electronic tracking will be available, and application fees will drop by 30%.

Ablakwa stated that issuing the new passports will take no more than 15 days. He spoke at the launch event at the Passport Headquarters in Accra.

He emphasized collaboration among sector players for enhanced security measures. This effort complies with ICAO travel document standards.

The new passports use nanotechnology for added protection on the bio page. This upgrade increases security features from 32 to over 150.

Additionally, a Micro Frequency Identification Chip stores important data about the bearer. This makes it a top-tier international travel document approved by ICAO.

The e-passports meet international standards and reflect Ghana’s cultural identity. They feature iconic Adinkra symbols like Fawohodie (Freedom and Independence) and Funtunfunefu Denkyemfunefu (Democracy and Cooperation).
