The Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, has issued a directive.
He ordered the immediate transfer of all police commanders in mining areas.
This includes regional, divisional, and district commanders.
The minister instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to enforce this directive quickly.
“I have ordered the IGP to transfer all police commanders in mining areas,” he said.
He emphasized that new officers will replace them immediately.
The minister explained that some officers have been in these regions too long.
They have not made significant progress against illegal mining activities.
This shake-up is part of broader measures to combat the issue.
To ensure accountability, new officers will undergo a three-month performance review.
“If they don’t perform, we will transfer them after three months,” he stated.
“We will keep making changes until we see results.”
Under this policy, removed officers will be reassigned to non-mining areas.
This allows fresh personnel to take charge in fighting illegal mining.
