Newage Agric Solutions Ltd has partnered with Afrika Nyornu. They aim to promote menstrual hygiene education for adolescent girls. This initiative targets farming communities in Akatsi, Botanga Tono, Asutuare, Kpetoe, and Golokuati.
The program coincided with World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025. It also celebrated Newage's fifth anniversary. The company is committed to making a lasting social impact.
A key event took place at St. Joseph Parish Hall in Asutuare. Two hundred learners from local schools participated. This included 150 girls from Junior High School levels.
The session focused on menstrual hygiene management for both boys and girls. Participants learned about menstruation science and debunked common myths. They discussed ways to eliminate stigma around menstruation.
Mrs. Beatrice Nortey spoke at the event. She emphasized the need for a period-friendly environment for girls. “Empowering the girl child starts with providing the right information,” she said.
Participants were introduced to various menstrual hygiene products. These included sanitary pads, tampons, menstrual cups, and reusable pads. Practical demonstrations helped students learn how to use each product effectively.
A highlight of the program was distributing sanitary towels to girls. About 3,000 sanitary towels were given to around 1,000 girls across six communities. Student Sandra Totome expressed her surprise at learning about menstrual cups.
Another student, Emmanuel, thanked Newage and Afrika Nyornu for their training. He noted it would help girls stay clean during their periods. Hassim Ibrahim shared that he learned how to assist his sister with sanitary pads.
Ms. Joyce Opoku represented Afrika Nyornu at the event. She praised the partnership as a step toward breaking menstrual taboos. “Our theme this year is ‘Together for a period-friendly world,’” she stated.
She stressed the importance of educating young girls about menstrual hygiene. The goal is to ensure they feel equipped and supported during their periods.
The program concluded with a call for supportive school environments. Leaders were urged to create spaces where menstruation can be openly discussed without shame.
This initiative by Newage Agric Solutions Ltd highlights its commitment to community development and girl-child empowerment in Ghana.
