Dr. Stephen Amoah, the MP for Nhyiaeso Constituency, is taking action against drug abuse. He aims to address rising drug use and anti-social behavior among local youth.
The MP has partnered with security agencies to target drug-peddling areas. However, he believes more efforts are needed to combat these illegal activities.
During a recent school block inauguration at State Experimental School, Dr. Amoah urged the KMA Boss and other stakeholders to help eliminate these issues.
Drug abuse is becoming increasingly prevalent across the country. Interior Minister Muntaka Mubabrak has expressed concern about this situation.
He has instructed the Ashanti Regional Police Command to act against "Tinker Island." This area is known as a major drug den in Kumasi.
Although Tinker Island is outside Nhyiaeso, a successful raid could help reduce drug abuse elsewhere. Dr. Amoah noted that drug abuse contributes to rising robbery and crime rates in his constituency.
He highlighted that women feel unsafe due to these issues. “Mothers can't even leave their houses except in the afternoons,” he said.
Dr. Amoah also plans to crack down on unregistered motorbikes, which contribute to crime. He announced a ban on anyone under 18 buying alcohol or tobacco products.
“Whether for the mother, father, or uncle, they will be dealt with,” he warned about strict enforcement of this policy.
Additionally, youth under 18 will not be allowed in sports betting centers to prevent underage gambling.
The MP has committed to working closely with law enforcement for arrests and legal actions against offenders.
