Ninth Parliament resumes sittings with mid-year budget review on agenda

Parliament resumes today, Tuesday, May 27, 2025. This marks the start of the Second Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament after the Easter recess.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, announced this resumption. The notice was dated May 12 and follows Order 58 of the Standing Orders.

Proceedings will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Parliament House in Accra.

This meeting signals a return to full legislative activity. Members of Parliament will engage in debates and committee work on key national issues.

One major event this session is the presentation of the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review by the Minister for Finance in August.

Second Deputy Majority Whip Richard Acheampong spoke on Citi FM about the busy legislative calendar. He emphasized that ministerial statements are crucial for assessing government performance and future plans.

“The ministers will make their statements so we can assess their achievements over three months,” Acheampong said. “We have a packed agenda this sitting, including the mid-year budget review.”

To prepare for this session, the Minority Caucus held a retreat over the weekend. They reflected on their legislative performance and strategized for upcoming weeks.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin reaffirmed their commitment to oversight and political aspirations.

“We are sending a strong message to our opponents—we will hold them accountable,” he stated. “I assure Ghanaians that we are ready to take power in 2028.”

With Parliament back in session, attention will focus on both sides' legislative priorities as they address critical national issues.
