Ade Coker, former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, criticized the Kumasi Mayor. He condemned the mayor's decision to beat traders selling on pavements.
Coker stated that the NDC will not support this approach. He believes the mayor should follow the example of his appointing leader. Taking laws into his own hands is not acceptable.
Coker emphasized that Ghanaian leaders need innovative solutions. He said, “Lashing people won’t work.” No NDC member will back such actions.
He suggested creating jobs for people to clean at night. This would help maintain cleanliness in Kumasi.
Coker noted that while the mayor had an idea, he went too far. He urged the mayor to reflect on his leader’s demeanor and act accordingly.
He called for building markets instead of using harsh measures. Coker wants to see a central market and satellite markets developed.
He criticized ad-hoc measures as ineffective in modern times. Other countries have better market conditions; some even allow sleeping there.
“If I had his phone number, I would advise him,” he said on Asempa FM.
