No appointee can purchase state assets – Mahama issues stern warning

President John Dramani Mahama has given a strict ultimatum to political appointees. They must declare their assets by Wednesday, May 7, 2025. If they fail to comply, they risk losing their positions.

Those appointed before March 31, 2025, who do not meet the deadline will face penalties. “You will forfeit three months of salary,” Mr. Mahama stated. This money will go to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.

During the launch of the Code of Conduct for Political Appointees on May 5, he emphasized the importance of this new code. It aims to restore discipline and ethical integrity in public service.

“This is a government of shared responsibility,” he said. The Code applies to everyone, including the Vice President and advisors.

Mr. Mahama also banned state asset acquisitions by officials. “No political appointee can purchase state assets,” he declared. Violators will have their appointments terminated.

He urged Ghanaians to help hold officials accountable. “I invite citizens to monitor compliance with this Code,” he said.

In conclusion, Mr. Mahama described this initiative as a significant change in public service culture. “What we launch today is more than a Code; it is a declaration of intent.” He stressed that it values ethics over expediency and duty over indulgence.
