Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has addressed public concerns. His recent comments in Bawku were misinterpreted, he said.
During a media briefing, the IGP clarified his message to local youth. He did not promise automatic recruitment into the Ghana Police Service. Instead, he assured them they could join the normal recruitment process if they laid down their arms.
He stated, “Put down your weapons, and when it comes to recruitment, we will give you the advantage.” He emphasized that they would still need to go through the regular process.
Yohuno noted that recruitment is centralized at the national level. This often makes it hard to achieve regional balance in hiring. However, there is a commitment to ensure inclusivity and representation.
He acknowledged the contributions of police officers from Bawku. Their presence has positively impacted police duties in the area.
His clarification comes after backlash over a video of him with locals. The video sparked debates about fairness and potential bias in police recruitment.
