Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu stated that graduate teachers are picketing at the Ghana Education Service. He claims these teachers were not hired through proper channels.
Iddrisu noted that the previous government employed 39,000 teachers without financial clearance. The current government is auditing this situation. After the audit, they will hire about 12,000 of those teachers.
He explained, “Appointment letters were issued to 39,000 people without financial clearance. This is problematic. We may only absorb nine, eleven, or twelve thousand.”
Iddrisu emphasized that the previous administration misled these teachers into believing they were legitimately recruited. He assured them that an audit would confirm their qualifications and eligibility for employment.
The group of teachers has been waiting for their salaries for nearly nine months. They were seen when the President visited the Ashanti Region recently but did not receive any attention as he passed by.
