No load shedding, supply meets demand - Energy Minister

Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has denied claims about power outages. He stated that Ghana has enough fuel supply. There is no need for a load-shedding timetable.

Mr. Jinapor spoke on Good Morning Ghana with Moro Awudu. His comments followed remarks from energy analyst Kwadwo Poku Nsafoa. Nsafoa claimed that despite over $200 million released for fuel, some areas still face power cuts.

“Lights going off isn’t about money,” Mr. Nsafoa argued. He criticized Jinapor's management of the sector and questioned delays in securing gas supplies.

In response, Mr. Jinapor expressed surprise at the Minority's politicization of the issue. “I’m surprised at the Minority,” he said. He mentioned being invited to brief them but felt disrespected by their actions afterward.

He assured there is no imminent crisis or reason to panic. His ministry has arranged to boost fuel reserves as needed.

“I told them we had two days and six hours’ worth of crude oil,” he explained. They have also ordered 450,000 barrels of light crude oil to increase stock levels.

Jinapor clarified that Ghana is not exporting power currently. The supply meets national demand, making a load-shedding timetable unnecessary.

“As we speak, the supply meets the demand,” he stated. “So why publish a load-shedding timetable if the plants are working?”
