No one is above the law – EPA vows to clamp down on galamsey

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is committed to fighting illegal mining. They will hold all offenders accountable, regardless of their status or political connections.

On April 1, Prof. Nana Ama Klutse spoke on Channel One Newsroom. She is the acting chief executive officer of the EPA. She emphasized the agency’s dedication to protecting the environment and enforcing regulations.

“We will focus on our mandate to protect the environment,” she said. “We need to act against illegal activities, no matter who is involved.”

Prof. Klutse addressed concerns about political figures in illegal mining. She stated that no official complaints have been received regarding this issue.

However, she assured the public that the EPA remains vigilant. They are ready to act on any credible reports they receive.

“So far, we have not received any complaints about politicians,” she noted. The EPA monitors activities and responds to community complaints.

“If we get reports from communities or companies, we take action,” she added. This includes prosecuting those who violate compliance regulations.

Prof. Klutse also stated that political influence will not protect anyone from accountability. “If a politician is involved in illegal mining, we will apply the law equally.”
