Nii Lantey Vanderpuye is the National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP). He recently addressed claims about President John Dramani Mahama's stance on illegal mining, known as galamsey.
Vanderpuye spoke on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on May 8. He clarified that the President did not promise to end galamsey in 120 days.
“It is not a fight that will end in 120 days,” he said. “President Mahama did not say anywhere that he will end galamsey within 120 days.”
He emphasized that the President's commitment to tackling illegal mining is long-term. “He said he will end galamsey, so it could be today or one year,” he explained.
Vanderpuye urged the public to focus on collective efforts instead of arbitrary timelines. “What we should expect is a commitment from all of us to end this menace,” he added.
