Kennedy Agyapong, a former MP and flagbearer aspirant, has made a bold statement. He insists that no one can stop him from running for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer position.
His comments follow his withdrawal from the NPP Thank You Tour. This decision came after a student was stabbed at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Agyapong joined Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's tour for unity but feels unwelcome.
Speaking to the media, Agyapong said, “I felt it was important to join Dr. Bawumia on his tour. But it’s clear I’m not wanted.” He expressed concern for his team's safety after recent events.
He stated, “I am withdrawing mainly to protect my people.” He plans to regroup and help the party later. Agyapong also warned against one-sided politics within the NPP.
He declared, “I want every party member to know I will campaign and contest.” Reports indicate that the stabbing victim is affiliated with Unity Hall (Conti). The student was hospitalized after being stabbed multiple times during the tour in Bantama.
The victim was part of a group hired by Kennedy Agyapong. Eyewitnesses reported an altercation between this group and suspected NPP members who took money from them. Gunshots were fired during this incident, resulting in one member being stabbed.
The injured Jama group member was rushed to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment. Allegations suggest he was attacked over a disagreement with other party members.
Kennedy Agyapong has filed an official complaint with the Ghana Police Service regarding the incident. The injured supporter is currently receiving medical care, but no arrests have been made yet by police.
