Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He stated that no one from the Ashanti Region has ever been NPP’s national chairman.
Chairman Wontumi believes the next national chairman should come from his region. He expressed this on his Wontumi Radio show. “Nobody from the Ashanti Region has been national chairman before,” he said.
He emphasized that the party needs someone experienced. “They want someone who has been a constituency chairman and knows the ropes,” he explained. He mentioned his experience as a regional chairman and claimed, “I am the people’s chairman.”
Chairman Wontumi shared his dedication to the NPP. He recalled sponsoring youth programs when he was Bosomtwi Constituency chairman. He also supported national leadership with monthly funds.
“The love I have for this party is immense,” he added. In 2015, after his constituency election, he donated remaining funds to national leadership. He also contributed GH¢1 billion for organizing a congress in Tamale.
Recently, Chairman Wontumi announced his intention to run for National Chairmanship of the NPP. He revealed that he had an encounter with God before making this decision.
He is hopeful that leading the party will help it return to power in 2028. Speaking on Wontumi TV, he said, “I have spoken to God and pleaded with him.”
“I will contest for the NPP National Chairman when the time comes,” he declared confidently.
