Former UK Ambassador to Ghana, Jon Benjamin, has condemned the erection of a statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, calling it inappropriate during one’s lifetime or tenure.
His comments followed the January 13 vandalism of the statue by alleged NDC supporters.
The statue, unveiled in November 2024 during Akufo-Addo’s “Thank-You Tour” at Effia Nkwanta Hospital in Sekondi, faced criticism from locals who questioned the former President’s contributions to the region.
While the vandalism has drawn mixed reactions, with some residents condemning the act, the NDC has denied any involvement.
Sharing his views on X, Benjamin stated, “Nobody should ever put up a statue of themselves while still alive, let alone while still in office.”
