Bright Ofori Ampofo is the Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro. He has dismissed claims that participants in Monday's protest were paid by the party. This protest was against the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.
Ampofo responded to public concerns about the large turnout. Critics speculated that financial incentives motivated the crowd. He spoke on Channel One’s Newsroom on May 5, emphasizing that the protest was a grassroots response to perceived injustice.
He stated, “When injustice is going on, everybody should be worried.” He explained that they mobilized support by informing their grassroots about the situation. The need to speak up brought out many participants.
Ampofo challenged the idea that money could have gathered such a crowd. He asked, “Which millionaire can pay all those people?” He emphasized that it wasn't just about payment; it was about conviction and reality.
Reflecting on the 2024 election outcome, Ampofo acknowledged NPP's defeat. However, he maintained that NPP remains Ghana’s largest political force. He attributed their loss to voter apathy among supporters who regretted not voting.
“They think that the bad state of NPP is still better than NDC,” he added.
