The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced the start of this year's ban on drumming and noise-making. This ban will run from Monday, May 12 to Thursday, June 12, 2025.
Gilbert Nii Ankrah, Head of Public Affairs at AMA, signed the press release. Residents and organizations in the Ga Traditional Area must observe this ban. It is enforced with the Ga Traditional Council (GTC) as part of cultural rites for the Homowo festival.
The AMA provided strict guidelines for compliance during this month-long period:
1. Religious Activities: Churches can continue worship but must stay within their premises. They cannot use musical instruments.
2. Public Sound Restrictions: Loudspeakers are not allowed outside churches, mosques, or pubs. Roadside evangelism is also suspended.
3. Interfaith Harmony: Religious and traditional groups should avoid derogatory remarks and respect each other’s practices.
4. Ban on Funerals: The GTC has imposed a ban on funeral rites and related gatherings.
5. Authorized Enforcement Only: Only identifiable task force members from AMA, the Ghana Police Service, and Traditional Council representatives can enforce the ban. Unauthorized enforcement is strictly prohibited.
The statement emphasized that everyone should follow these guidelines for an incident-free Nmaa Dumo period.
