Dornukie Norteye, a former NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Ada, has spoken out. She condemned the injustice against women in leadership. She cited the recent suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo as an example.
President John Dramani Mahama suspended Justice Torkonoo. He also set up a five-member committee to investigate her removal. Norteye warned that this decision could worsen gender bias in governance.
“The suspension of the Chief Justice shows how women are undermined,” she said. “The committee must act legally and impartially.” She added that otherwise, it seems like a trap because she is a woman.
Norteye expressed frustration over the lack of protection for women leaders. “So few women in decision-making. So little protection,” she stated. “My heart bleeds as a woman!”
