Not everybody has confidence to walk straight to the Police – Kpebu on need for ORAL

Martin Kpebu Martin Kpebu

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has defended the establishment of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee by President John Mahama, emphasizing its importance in addressing corruption.

Speaking on The Key Points on January 18, Kpebu noted that not everyone feels comfortable reporting wrongdoing directly to the police, making alternative channels like ORAL essential.

Citing the Whistleblowers Act, Kpebu explained that Ghana’s laws already allow citizens to report crimes through various avenues, including chiefs, MPs, and religious leaders.

The ORAL committee formalizes this process, ensuring cases of corruption and state capture are documented and addressed efficiently.

Kpebu compared the initiative to anti-corruption NGOs, which have successfully exposed major scandals. He urged Ghanaians to view ORAL as a proactive tool for accountability, not a political strategy.
