Nothing wrong with CJ benefiting from job terms – Ansa-Asare

Kwaku Ansa-Asare, former Director of the Ghana School of Law, has defended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. He responded to allegations of financial misconduct related to her foreign travels.

A private citizen, Daniel Ofori, submitted a petition to the President. He accused the Chief Justice of misappropriating over GHS 261,000 in public funds in 2023. This money was allegedly used for personal trips abroad with her husband and daughter.

Ofori also claimed that the Chief Justice took an extra GHS 75,580 for a trip to Tanzania. He stated she failed to account for a $14,000 imprest for that journey. Ofori is one of three individuals seeking the Chief Justice’s removal from office due to alleged misconduct.

On Eyewitness News on April 23, 2025, Ansa-Asare discussed the issue further. He argued that the Chief Justice's travel should be viewed through her employment contract.

He said, “The issue with her traveling with family stems from her contract.” Ansa-Asare believes there is nothing wrong with an office holder enjoying their appointment's terms and conditions.
