Notorious Kumasi-based armed robber sentenced to 120 years in prison with hard labour

Dominic Afriyie, a 36-year-old armed robber from Kumasi, has been sentenced. He received 120 years in prison for two counts of robbery. He was also given life imprisonment for murder.

His conviction follows an attack on Mr. Michael Dela Agbo Klu. This incident occurred on November 20, 2021, in Atasemanso, Kumasi. During the robbery, Afriyie stole two mobile phones, an ASUS Zenbook laptop, and GH¢1,500. Tragically, he shot and killed Mr. Klu during the crime.

Afriyie was arrested again on December 31, 2021. He attempted another robbery at around 2:20 am with three accomplices in Atasemanso. Police found two pistols and two shotguns in their vehicle.

Investigations confirmed that Afriyie acted alone in Mr. Klu's robbery and murder. Despite pleading not guilty during his trial, he was convicted based on evidence presented.

A seven-member jury found him guilty of two robbery counts and one count of murder. The verdict was delivered by His Lordship Abdul Razak on May 15, 2025.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo praised the court's decision. He emphasized the police's commitment to community safety and justice for violent criminals.
