Notorious armed robber jailed 18 years

The Upper West Regional Police Command has convicted a notorious armed robber. This brings significant relief to local residents.

ASP Michael Toya confirmed the arrest of Adinan Mahmoud, 25. He is known by the alias "Okra." Mahmoud was arrested on Saturday, May 31, in Sandemuni. This suburb is part of the Wa Municipal area.

His arrest followed intelligence-led operations by the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate. Mahmoud had been wanted for multiple robberies in the region.

On Monday, June 2, he appeared before the Wa Circuit Court. His Honour Jonathan Avoogo presided over the case. Mahmoud pleaded guilty to conspiracy and robbery charges. He received an 18-year prison sentence with hard labor.

Two accomplices, Abdulai Ibrahim (alias Baba) and Abdulai Kipo, pleaded not guilty. They have been remanded into prison and police custody. Their trial will continue on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.

The police statement noted that removing Okra from the streets helps residents feel safer. The command remains committed to tracking down threats to peace and security in the region.
