Police are increasing their presence in Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipality. This follows violent clashes between local youth and the Zongo community. The conflict is believed to be a retaliation for the death of 35-year-old Okada rider, Masawudu Issaka.
Two people were injured during the unrest. They are currently receiving treatment at Nsawam Government Hospital. Reports say violence broke out after Issaka's death was confirmed. He had been attacked by some youth from Adoagyiri last week. Afterward, he was taken to Ridge Hospital in Accra but died on May 22.
Issaka’s death caused anger in the Zongo community. In response, some local youth went on a rampage. They destroyed property and set shops on fire. The newly built community astroturf was also vandalized during this chaos. Many business owners closed their shops and fled for safety.
In response to the violence, DCOP Ohene Boadi Bossman visited the area with police reinforcements. He held emergency meetings with local chiefs and leaders. He urged everyone to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing investigations.
Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri, is also involved. He met with traditional leaders in Adoagyiri to discuss the situation. He pledged support for Issaka's family and promised justice.
“I will raise this issue in Parliament,” he said. “I will ensure that those responsible face the law.” The MP also offered help to victims as best as he could.
Masawudu Issaka was buried on Friday, May 23, after Jummah prayers. His funeral procession attracted hundreds of mourners who followed his cortege through Adoagyiri streets under tight security.
