Ntim-Fordjour questions Mahama over dual appointment of Gen Annan as CoS of GAF and Commissioner of Customs

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has raised concerns about President John Mahama's recent appointments.

He questions the decision to appoint Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan to two significant roles. Brig. Gen. Annan is now Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and Commissioner of Customs at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

In a social media post on March 23, Ntim Fordjour criticized these appointments. He suggested they were politically motivated and lacked proper process.

He noted that just days after his appointment as Chief of Staff, Brig. Gen. Annan received another role at GRA. Ntim Fordjour highlighted that this officer was promoted ahead of more senior peers for partisan reasons.

The Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced Brig. Gen. Annan's appointment as Commissioner of Customs in an official statement. The statement praised him as a distinguished officer capable of reforming the Customs Division.

However, it did not address concerns about his simultaneous role as Chief of Staff in GAF.

Ntim Fordjour also questioned the transparency of this appointment process. He demanded clarity on whether Brig. Gen. Annan's initial role had been revoked.

He asked if President Mahama was confused or if Stan Dogbe was trying to secure multiple positions for friends. He concluded by asking where the letter revoking Brig Gen Ashong Annan’s earlier appointment was located.
