Rev. John Ntim Fordjour is the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee. He has urged the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) to pursue major drug trafficking cases with equal vigor as smaller ones.
On April 25, he posted on X (formerly Twitter). The Assin South MP questioned why there has been silence regarding high-profile cocaine seizures this year.
He specifically mentioned two large drug hauls worth an estimated $500 million combined. “How far with the prosecution of the half-billion-dollar cocaine busts?” he asked.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour noted NACOC's commitment to preventing drug trafficking at ports. However, he questioned what happened to prosecuting traffickers involved in those significant busts.
He compared this silence to updates on smaller drug cases. “There’s a good update on the prosecution of small busts of 89.74kg,” he said.
He then asked when suspects from the larger busts would be arrested for prosecution. “When will armed operatives storm their houses?” he inquired, pointing out an imbalance in law enforcement efforts.
The MP emphasized fairness and consistency in fighting narcotics. He stated that everyone supports zero tolerance for drug trafficking.
“Big busts must not be shielded while small busts are showcased,” he concluded. He insisted that both should be prosecuted with equal urgency.
