The Cape Coast High Court has ruled in favor of Rev. John Ntim Fordjour. He is the MP for Assin South. The ruling was in a defamation suit against Stephen Cobbah, known as Adepa, and Yaw Korankye, known as Ampong.
Rev. Fordjour sued them over statements made on the "Assinman Politics Gh." WhatsApp platform in March 2024. He claimed these statements were defamatory. He sought GHS 1 million in damages, an injunction, a retraction, and an apology.
On Monday, April 28, 2025, the court delivered its judgment. It found that the defendants' words were indeed defamatory. The court awarded GHS 700,000 in damages against both defendants jointly and severally. Each defendant was also ordered to pay GHS 20,000 in costs.
Additionally, the court issued a perpetual injunction against further defamatory statements about Rev. Fordjour. The defendants must retract their statements prominently and apologize unconditionally to him.
These apologies are to be published on the "Assinman Politics Gh." WhatsApp platform and any other platforms where the statements were shared. This judgment highlights the legal consequences of using social media for political commentary.
