Private developers have taken control of a significant portion of the Nungua Livestock Breeding Station land along the Tema Motorway, erecting apartments and walled enclosures.
The station’s main office has also been fenced off, with developers allegedly pressuring staff to vacate under threats of demolition.
During a visit to the site as part of his familiarisation tour, Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, pledged to resist the land takeover.
He stated that the government would investigate the acquisition process and petition the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) committee to intervene.
The facility’s manager, Dr Dennis Owusu Adjei, revealed that workers must plead daily with developers for office access, and staff bungalows have already been demolished.
Concerns also extend to the animal production unit, where developers have signaled plans for further demolitions.
Deputy Manager Mrs. Bridget Wiredu urged the minister to take urgent action to protect the station and called for long-overdue staff promotions.
