OSP calls for stronger collaboration with CHRAJ in anti-corruption drive

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, visited Dr. Joseph Akanjolenur Whittal. Dr. Whittal is the Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ). This visit aimed to improve collaboration in Ghana's fight against corruption.

The meeting took place on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. Mr. Agyebeng stressed the need for better coordination between the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and CHRAJ. He warned that weak cooperation among anti-corruption bodies creates gaps for corrupt individuals.

“A unified partnership is essential to close these loopholes,” he stated. He emphasized that impunity must not be tolerated.

Mr. Agyebeng praised CHRAJ for its leadership in human rights and anti-corruption efforts. He acknowledged CHRAJ’s referrals of high-profile cases, including those involving the former head of the Public Procurement Authority.

He also announced plans to expand OSP's regional presence with new offices in Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tamale. He noted that CHRAJ’s nationwide reach makes it a vital partner in anti-corruption enforcement.

Dr. Whittal welcomed Mr. Agyebeng’s visit as a chance to strengthen collaboration. He supported creating a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for joint efforts.

Dr. Whittal reiterated CHRAJ’s commitment to advancing the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP). The meeting ended with both parties agreeing to enhance cooperation and close operational gaps.

Mr. Agyebeng was accompanied by Mr. Samuel Appiah Darko from OSP. Dr. Whittal was joined by Deputy Commissioners Mercy Larbi and Benjamin Barfo-Bonney, along with other senior officials from CHRAJ.
