Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has criticized the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). He claims the OSP's declaration of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as wanted is based on a bruised ego, not legal grounds.
Aboagye spoke on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, June 7. He argued that the OSP’s actions are politically motivated and lack merit.
The OSP declared Ghana’s former Finance Minister wanted after he missed a deadline. Ofori-Atta was supposed to appear before the office by June 2. The situation escalated when the OSP requested an INTERPOL Red Notice for him.
This request followed the rejection of his legal team’s medical documents citing cancer. On June 5, Ofori-Atta was officially listed on INTERPOL’s Red Notice database. His physical characteristics and date of birth were included in this listing.
Aboagye condemned the OSP’s actions as personal vendettas rather than justice. He stated, “This declaration seems less about law and more about bruised egos.” He questioned why medical evidence was disregarded in this case.
He urged a focus on fair legal procedures instead of sensationalism. Aboagye emphasized that institutions should uphold the law impartially. They must respect due process without yielding to political pressures or personal grievances.
He called for restraint and respect for Ofori-Atta's rights during this investigation.
