OSP dismisses purported medical report on Ken Ofori-Atta, denies receiving any official document

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has discredited a medical report. This report claims that former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta is unfit to travel. The OSP stated it has not received any such report from him or his lawyers.

The disputed document is dated May 14, 2025. It is allegedly signed by Dr. Ahmed Abdalrhim, an internal medicine specialist at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. The report surfaced online on Tuesday.

It explains Mr. Ofori-Atta’s inability to attend a meeting with the OSP on June 2, 2025.

The purported medical report is titled “And To Whom It May Concern.” It states that Mr. Ofori-Atta has been diagnosed with prostate cancer after an MR-guided biopsy.

The report mentions a necessary surgical intervention scheduled for June 13. Dr. Paras Shah from the Department of Urology will perform this procedure.

After surgery, Mr. Ofori-Atta will need time to recover before traveling home. The report invites further questions if needed.

However, on June 3, the OSP clarified that no official medical report was submitted regarding Mr. Ofori-Atta’s health condition.

They noted that neither he nor his lawyers provided any such letter to the OSP.

The only formal communication from his legal team indicated a change in his medical condition but lacked supporting documents.

The OSP expressed concern about the alleged medical report circulating in the media instead of through official channels.

They emphasized that this letter should have been submitted to law enforcement investigating him and deciding on his return to Ghana.

To date, the OSP has not received certified medical records from any recognized institution confirming Mr. Ofori-Atta's unfitness to travel.

Mr. Ofori-Atta is under investigation by the Special Prosecutor for alleged corruption-related offenses.

The emergence and timing of this disputed medical report have raised concerns in legal and political circles. The OSP has distanced itself from the document and questioned its authenticity publicly.
