The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has rejected a medical report. This report claims that former Finance Minister Kenneth Ofori-Atta is unfit to travel. The OSP stated it has not received any such report from him or his lawyers.
The disputed document is dated May 14, 2025. It is allegedly signed by Dr. Ahmed Abdalrhim, an internal medicine specialist at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. The report appeared online on Tuesday.
It explains Mr. Ofori-Atta’s inability to attend a meeting with the OSP on June 2, 2025.
The purported medical report states: “Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to inform you that Mr. Ofori-Atta has undergone an MR-guided biopsy and has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.”
It continues: “A surgical intervention is necessary after testing and MRI procedures in March 2025.”
The surgery is scheduled for June 13 with Dr. Paras Shah from the Department of Urology. The report mentions that Mr. Ofori-Atta will need recovery time before traveling home.
However, on June 3, the OSP clarified that no official medical report had been submitted regarding Mr. Ofori-Atta’s health condition.
They stated: “Neither Mr. Ofori-Atta nor his lawyers have submitted any such letter to the OSP.”
According to the OSP, they only received a letter about a change in his medical condition without supporting documents.
The OSP expressed concern over the alleged medical report circulating in the media instead of through official channels.
“It is notable that this alleged hospital letter has been circulated through media rather than submitted to law enforcement,” they said.
The Office reiterated it has not received certified medical records from any recognized institution confirming Mr. Ofori-Atta's unfitness to travel.
Mr. Ofori-Atta is under investigation by the Special Prosecutor for alleged corruption-related offenses.
The emergence and timing of this disputed medical report have raised concerns in legal and political circles. The OSP formally distanced itself from the document and questioned its authenticity.
