The Manhyia South MP has urged the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to be consistent. This includes dealing with individuals outside Ghana, like former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah noted that the OSP set a precedent. They previously flew abroad to engage Samuel Adam Mahama over the Airbus scandal. He believes they should do the same for Ofori-Atta instead of holding press conferences.
Speaking on PM Express on Joy News, he referenced the OSP’s own report. He pointed out that it mentioned flying out to interview Mahama when necessary.
Baffour Awuah stated this precedent cannot be ignored now. He questioned what approach should be taken in this situation.
He supports the Special Prosecutor's mission against corruption and for public interest. “I am on the side of the Special Prosecutor,” he said.
However, he rejected any public spectacle regarding Ofori-Atta’s case. “The approach will not be a press conference,” he emphasized.
Instead, he suggested writing to lawyers about Ofori-Atta's difficulties in returning to Ghana. The MP stressed that consistency in legal processes is crucial for fairness and effectiveness.
He proposed interviewing Ofori-Atta outside Ghana if needed. “We have done it before; we can do it again,” he stated confidently.
Baffour Awuah dismissed budgetary excuses as well. The OSP had a budget of GH¢149 million last year and this year too. He argued they can afford to take similar actions again.
His comments come amid growing public debate over how the OSP is handling Ken Ofori-Atta’s summons. Some accuse him of evading justice, while others criticize the state’s tone as inflammatory.
For Baffour Awuah, justice must take priority over drama. “I would rather want to see the OSP make progress,” he concluded.
