Kofi Bentil is the Vice President of IMANI Africa, a policy think tank. He recently spoke about former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. Bentil advised Ofori-Atta not to return to Ghana. He criticized the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for its actions.
On JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on June 7, Bentil expressed his concerns. He argued that declaring someone wanted exceeds constitutional limits. “It is not constitutional for any institution to declare a person wanted,” he said.
Mr. Ofori-Atta was declared wanted on June 2. This happened after he missed a deadline to appear before the OSP. The office, led by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, stated that Ofori-Atta's legal team did not provide adequate medical documentation.
Ofori-Atta cited cancer as the reason for his absence. The OSP has escalated the situation further. They listed him on INTERPOL’s Red Notice database.
The notice describes him as a 65-year-old Ghanaian male. He was born in Accra on November 7, 1959. He has black hair and eyes and stands at 1.7 meters tall. He is fluent in English and Twi.
