OSP informed on 27th May of Ofori-Atta’s inability to be in Ghana

Frank Davies, a member of Ken Ofori-Atta's legal team, shared updates about the former Finance Minister. He stated that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) was informed of Ofori-Atta’s absence from Ghana.

Davies said they notified the OSP on May 27. This notification explained that Ofori-Atta could not attend due to medical reasons. He mentioned this during an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on June 2.

Davies noted that the OSP has not acknowledged receiving their letter. He questioned why people find it hard to understand Ofori-Atta's health issues.

He explained, “If I promise to meet you tomorrow but get sick tonight, would you expect me?” He emphasized that everyone knew about Ofori-Atta's health challenges before any charges were filed against him.

On June 2, Ken Ofori-Atta missed another appointment with the OSP. His legal team confirmed he could not attend due to health complications. They have communicated this to both the OSP and the Human Rights Court.

The team submitted medical reports detailing his condition and upcoming surgery plans. Reports indicate that Ofori-Atta is willing to participate in the investigation virtually.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has not yet updated Ghanaians on this situation. The OSP previously accused him of causing financial loss to the state through various dealings.

These include issues related to the National Cathedral project and contracts involving ECG and Health Ministry services.

In a press conference, the OSP referred to Ken Ofori-Atta as a fugitive who left Ghana around January 2, 2025. They stated he was considered a suspect in four cases and was asked to appear for questioning on February 10, 2025.

Ofori-Atta instructed his lawyers to inform the OSP about his indefinite absence for medical reasons. The OSP had earlier announced he should report back by June 2, 2025.

In response to inquiries about his whereabouts, an official account from the OSP confirmed this expectation. They warned that if he fails to show up on June 2, he will be placed back on their wanted list.
