OSP investigated a whole ex-President and we didn’t have to chase him around – Kissi Agyebeng

Kissi Agyebeng, the Special Prosecutor, announced that his office investigated a former President without needing to chase him.

He referred to the investigation of current President John Mahama during his opposition role in the Airbus Scandal. Agyebeng emphasized that they did not have to pursue Mahama internationally. He questioned why they would need to chase a former Finance Minister.

During a press conference on June 2, Agyebeng stated that Ken Ofori-Atta is now considered wanted and a fugitive of justice. He has initiated an INTERPOL red notice for Ofori-Atta’s arrest and extradition.

Agyebeng explained, “About 30 minutes before this brief, I triggered processes for the issuance of an INTERPOL red notice.” This notice aims to locate and provisionally arrest Ofori-Atta in any jurisdiction.

The Special Prosecutor rejected Ofori-Atta's request for a virtual session. He insisted that Ofori-Atta must appear physically at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Agyebeng said, “This office has always requested his attendance.” He added that if they were willing to take statements remotely, they would have done so earlier.

“We want him here physically, and we insist on it,” he stated. A suspect cannot dictate how investigations are conducted or choose their convenience.

The OSP previously accused Ofori-Atta of causing financial loss to the state through various dealings. These include projects like the National Cathedral and contracts with the Ghana Revenue Authority.

Meanwhile, Frank Davies, part of Ofori-Atta's legal team, questioned why people struggle to understand his client’s health issues. He stated that Ofori-Atta is currently receiving treatment in the United States.

Davies remarked on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show about understanding health challenges: “If I suffer a casualty tonight, would you see me tomorrow?”

He emphasized that everyone knew about Ken's health problems before these charges were filed.
