OSP is terrorising Ken Ofori-Atta – Prof. Ansah-Asare

A former Director of the Ghana School of Law has made serious accusations. He claims the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is terrorizing former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Professor Kwaku Ansa-Asare believes the OSP's corruption probe is excessive and unfair. He also argues that it is unconstitutional.

In a media interview, Prof Ansa-Asare questioned why the OSP treats Mr Ofori-Atta like a convicted criminal. He stated, “Ken Ofori-Atta is not a suspect who has been tried.”

He added that no one has proven his guilt yet. Therefore, he remains a suspect under the law. The Constitution protects citizens from being treated as guilty before trial.

Prof Ansa-Asare cited Article 19, Clause 3 of the Constitution. This clause presumes innocence until proven guilty.

He expressed concern about what he sees as an aggressive approach by the Special Prosecutor. “Why declare him the most wanted fugitive?” he asked.

He believes this portrayal makes Ken look like a dangerous criminal. Prof Ansa-Asare emphasized that the issues raised by the OSP are not proven offences.

“The Special Prosecutor has outlined five serious issues,” he noted. However, these are not established offences yet.

He stressed that dignity and fundamental human rights must be respected in such cases.
